Back home in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Hernan Moyano always had a passion for bringing family and friends together by way of the EMPANADA. After relocating to the United States, he enjoyed sharing those same much-loved pastries with his American friends, who were always more than happy to oblige. It was not long before Hernan began toying with the idea of opening an Empanada restaurant in the US. Along the way, Hernan learned that brother, Santiago and long time childhood friend, Ricardo Yofre shared his vision of doing the very same thing. After much planning, discussion and gathering old family recipes that had been handed down thru generations PAMPAS EMPANADAS became a reality.

LION'S HEAD POTTERY
There is such a rich clay tradition in North Carolina and so many accomplished potters locally, that I feel fortunate to be a part of this very vibrant community. My goal as an artist is to embody the joy and sense of play I feel when working with clay whether I'm creating functional pots for everyday use or decorative pieces for the home. Most of my work is wheel thrown using high fire stoneware clay. Designs are created with slip and glazes and stamps and are typically abstract, sometimes primitive, and incorporate elements of nature. I am attracted to variations in form and strive for clean lines and designs that spatially fit each pot. The final glazing is done by layering shino glazes or by firing in a soda kiln. All of my functional pots are glazed with food safe glazes, and are dishwasher and microwave safe.
Each pot is unique. I do series of similar design, but no two are ever exactly the same and the designs are always changing. Every piece is created with attention to the way it feels in your hand or on your lips, to the visual pleasure it evokes, as well as its function. I want you to experience pleasure every time you touch it day after day, year after year.

I am an artist native to the Carolinas, exhibiting since 1988, currently based at Claymakers Community Arts, a non-profit ceramic studio in downtown Durham, NC, where I am a resident artist, gallery curator, and ceramics teacher. In my work, I maintain a core of fine craftsmanship, often a meditative quiet, an appreciation for the beauty of natural chaos, and I sometimes include a bit of silliness, for your health. Whether creating functional ware or sculpture, I strive to show a balance between contrasting things, such as precision and looseness, solemnity and humor, the vivid and the mute. Visit me at Claymakers, or contact me directly at 919-801-7174, CharlieEvergreenArt@gmail.com.

I work one-on-one with beginners through advanced learners. My studio has one electric stand-up wheel and amble table space for assembling pieces together. The table space is also great for hand builders. There are 2 electric kilns. The studio has heat and a/c.
Lessons typically involve working with clay during the beginning stages of the process. Those interested in keeping, glazing, and firing work to take home will be charged an additional fee. An extra lesson is needed to learn how to glaze. I have 8 years teaching experience with clay.
